The Prime Minister of Mauritius is the second Head of state of the country.He holds the second position of heldship as it is the President who occupies the first position.The actual Prime minister is Navinchandra Ramgoolam.The Prime Minister is the head of the ministerial cabinet.He is elected by the population in General Elections which is held each 5 years.His term is therefore of 5 years.His position is Political and therefore is appointed as the wish of the public which is not the case for the president who is elected by the ministerial cabinet based on the person qualifications and achievements as a leader and also head of state .The person who holds the record for longest run of Prime Minister position is The RT HON.SIR Anerood Jugnauth,QC,KCMG,G.C.S.k ,the actual President and Head of State who was Prime Minister for 16 years in 4 terms just preceding Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam(father of the nation) who was Prime Minister for 14 years. The Prime Minister despite being the second head of state is the highest power holder person as it is him who appoints the President after being elected during elections.
