The president of the Republic of Mauritius is the Head of State of the country. The president is elected by the National Assembly of Mauritius for term of five years; it is a largely ceremonial position. The president of the Republic is the highest ranking person in the country, He is also the highest paid civil servant of the country. The position was created in 1992 after the country was declared a Republic.The president was due to replace the Governors-General . The president resides at the STATE HOUSE which is found in Réduit. The president is the first representative of the Republic of Mauritius.The Prime minister holds the second position. The actual president is the former Prime minister of the country who held the ministerial cabinet for 16 years, The Rt. Hon. sir Anerood Jugnauth QC, KCMG, G.C.S.K who held the post from 2003 and his term is due to end in 2013. He has been twice voted for holding the presidential Cabinet in two terms of each five years. The president who held the cabinet the longest period as from now is Cassam Uteem who held the office for 9 years but will be preceded by The Rt. Hon.sir Anerood Jugnauth QC, KCMG, G.C.S.K when his term ends in 2013 making him holder of the cabinet for 10 years. The presidential cabinet comprises of the president, vice president and the lady of the state. The actual lady of state is Lady Sarojini Jugnauth.
